Two Generations, a Singular Commitment to Brookline: The Kaplan & Peck Families
The Kaplan and Peck Families
Cathy Kaplan first got to know the Center as a young mother in need of help. Forty years later, her daughter, Jane Kaplan Peck, joined the Center’s Board of Directors. With their husbands and business partners, Ken and Nate, they’ve made The Brookline Center a giving priority. Today, their families and their company, Kaplan Construction, are among the Center’s most reliable and generous supporters.
Cathy explains: “After moving to Brookline as a single mother in 1974, I went to The Brookline Center with my elder daughter and received services that helped us with a difficult transition. The Center had a sliding scale so I could afford the cost. It made a huge impression on me.
“Over the years, I have seen how the Center is always working to address the needs of our community. And I have witnessed how addressing mental health challenges has improved the lives of people in our family and close friends. It’s become quite clear to me that timely, quality services can make a lasting difference.”
Jane adds, “Last year, the Center brought us on a bus tour of the many places that it touches in Brookline. Seeing firsthand the broad range of programs and their impact on so many facets of the community was incredible–and something you think about both as a resident and as a businessperson. Once you really delve into what the Center has to offer, you realize what an extraordinary resource we have here.”
Both the Kaplan and Peck families have now joined the Center’s Edna Stein Leadership Giving Society. Named in honor of the Center’s founder, the Edna Stein Society is a dedicated group of Center supporters whose annual gifts of $1,000 or more express their shared commitment to community wellbeing. Their contributions ensure that critical mental health services remain available to all.
Says Cathy, “I’m delighted that Jane and Nate are carrying on Ken’s and my commitment to Brookline and to mental health, the foundation of all health. We do this together as a family, and as a company, because of what the Center does for us all.”
