MetroMediation offers highly-praised training for those who wish to learn and practice effective conflict resolution techniques in their personal or professional lives as well as for aspiring and practicing individual mediators, including both Mediator Training and Supervised / Mentored Mediation opportunities. We also offer conflict resolution workshops for organizations and businesses to help staff learn to manage interpersonal or organizational conflicts. We are proud to have been selected as trainers by local police, the US Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Executive Board, the Massachusetts trial courts, and others.
Mediator Training
In our 32-hour Mediator and Conflict Resolution Training, you’ll develop facilitation and conflict-resolution skills through role plays, demonstrations, discussions, and other participatory exercises. These trainings, held over a two-week period, also provide professional development that qualifies for NASW and LMHC credits.

To meet professional standards, mediators usually need to complete a supervised mediation experience (in addition to mediation training). MetroMediation offers exceptional supervised and mentored opportunities, far exceeding the standard, to new mediators or mediators who want to deepen and improve their practice. In our Supervised /Mentored Mediation program, participants observe an experienced mediator in action, co-mediate with program faculty and with fellow participants, are observed and receive critical feedback, and observe and respond to faculty and fellow participants’ mediations, all of which offers a tremendous skill-building opportunity.

MetroMediation Training Faculty
MetroMediation’s multi-disciplinary faculty includes lawyers, social workers, and others with a wealth of experience, training, and education in mediation and conflict resolution. Our core leaders and trainers include:
Antonio P. Castro Aranda, Director, Mediator, trained in legal practice in Spain; trained in Prisoner Re-entry mediation and Restorative Justice Practices; and has mediated and trained for many Boston area programs. MMS Court Programs and Re-entry Mediation Coordinator.
Sharon D. Armour, Re-entry Mediation Coordinator, Senior Mediator with over a decade experience mediating and providing training in the non-profit sector. Experience coaching and training with MMS.
Joan Sokoloff, MLS, LCSW, is MMS’ founder and former director. Joan has worked as a mediator in both the public and private sectors since 1986 and currently advises M.M.S. in a variety of matters.
Harry Manasewich, Senior Mediator and Founder of Human Factor Dispute Resolutions. His work addresses both interpersonal conflicts and larger scale public interest matters.
Phillip Glenn, Ph.D., is a Professor of Communication Studies at Emerson College, Boston. He teaches courses in conflict, negotiation and organizational communication, and he conducts research on talk-in-interaction. He received his mediation training from MMS and is an MMS mediator and trainer.
These and other trainers are mediators and educators experienced in a variety of settings, including non-profit programs, private practices, universities, businesses, court, or government programs.
